Why stay in a hotel near the pyramids and not in the city center?
If you are in Cairo just for a few days, it will be easier for you to see locations starting from a base in Giza. Traffic from the city center to the pyramids can cause the journey to take more than an hour, which means an early start if you want to experience a full day, especially if you need to enter the Great Pyramid when you are in the plateau before 0800. If you are in Cairo For a while, the hotels in the Pyramids are all resort-based, built on an acre of land with outdoor pools and comfortable areas, something that downtown hotels can’t really afford. This is why you tend to find downtown hotels like towers; extremely long and narrow, while Giza Pyramid hotels are limited in height, but they cover more land.
The cost also comes into the equation as a simple 4-star hotel in the downtown area is more expensive than a 5-star resort in the pyramids. Cairo resembles most of the major cities in the world in this regard, as the ownership of the city center is much more expensive. Although it may seem that downtown hotels carry the luxury of being able to wander around the area for shopping, restaurants, etc. Most Pyramid hotels offer free shuttle buses to allow you to do the same, plus taxis are not expensive and will still work out cheaper in the end.

It can sometimes be difficult to find a change in large bills, so a change in taxis and tips is always recommended.

Due to the low salaries of many professionals in Egypt, many people rely on advice or Bakhshish as it is called in Egypt, as a major part of their income. Consequently, tipping is considered customary in Egypt.
How much should I tip?
The amount depends on the situation. It is good at the restaurant to give between 5 to 10% of the instructions to the waiter directly even when adding service to the bill. Tax service does not go to the waiter. For a small interest, such as carrying luggage or parking in a car, some Egyptian pounds would be appropriate. Not more than five. Often in Egypt, you’ll find someone leaning to the bathroom to keep it clean. Give them one Egyptian pound is the right amount.
Giving tipping to the tour guide and driver is entirely optional. If you decide to give them, feel free to give what you think your experience was worth.
Will it be easy for me to find a transfer from Cairo Airport to other destinations in the city?
There are many transportation options available from Cairo Airport. The fastest and most common way is to take a taxi. The moment you leave the airport, you will find many taxi drivers offering you a ride. It is advisable to avoid riding old black cabs because they do not use meters and drivers may ask for an excessive fare. New white taxis, which use a meter, are a good option if you are traveling anywhere around Cairo, but at the airport, you may find yourself negotiating the price even with these new taxis. If you are going to downtown Cairo, you must pay more than 60 pounds.
There is a limousine service provided by Cairo Airport, which is more expensive than other modes of transport, but it is still relatively cheap when compared to the cost of transportation in North America or most European countries.
We recommend using the Cairo Airport Shuttle Bus, which you can book in advance if you are already in the country by calling 19970. You can also rent a car on arrival if you are looking for an office in the arrival hall, but you must wait a short time. It’s more expensive than a taxi, but it eliminates the hassle of negotiating the price and you’ll have a car that is especially comfortable for you.
Are there any trains from Cairo to the major cities in Egypt?
Trains in Egypt generally fall into two categories; air-conditioned trains that include luxury coaches and local trains that stop in each village or town every 15 to 20 minutes. Local trains are crowded and do not offer much comfort. Air conditioning trains usually offer first and second class cars. Both offer good options for travelers, but for a modest extra fee, first-class cars offer bigger and more comfortable seats. There are about 15 air-conditioned trains from Cairo to Alexandria daily and five flights from Cairo to Luxor and Aswan, which also stops in the major cities of the Nile Valley on the road. There are also two sleeping trains per night from Cairo to Luxor and Aswan, providing you with a private cabin and a hot dinner. The demand for trains in Egypt can be very high. It is recommended that you book your tickets several days in advance.
Is it a good idea to take the train from Cairo to distant destinations in Egypt like Aswan?
In general, the level of railway service in Egypt is good. The Egyptian railway network connects the Nile Valley, the Delta, and the Suez Canal. In summer, there are also trains to resort areas along Egypt’s Mediterranean coast.
Due to the high prices of domestic flights in Egypt, air travel does not always suit budget travelers. While travel by train takes longer, it offers a cheaper option and an unforgettable experience of seeing the entire Nile Valley by train. Sleeping trains from Cairo to Aswan and Luxor are designed specifically for tourists, departing Cairo at 9 pm and arriving in Luxor at around 4 am and in Aswan at around 7 am. These trains are comfortable and guests will be provided with a private cabin and a hot dinner.
Bus travel is available to all these locations for the Turgoman bus station, which is located near the main train station in central Cairo. Buses offer another option for affordable travel.
Can I travel by train from Cairo to Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh?
No, Egypt’s rail service does not pass through the Suez Canal to reach many cities in Sinai and does not go south of Ismailia along the Red Sea coast. Unlike planes, tourists can take buses from Cairo to reach cities like Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. It is also possible to rent a taxi to take you to these places, but this can be costly without traveling to divide the cost.
Is it a good idea for tourists riding in public buses to cities like Cairo and Alexandria
Buses in cities like Cairo and Alexandria literally cover the entire city. These buses are cheap (fare less than 1 EGP), and it can be difficult to know where each bus will take you and sometimes the buses are very crowded. Therefore, it is recommended to use other means of transport, such as taxis or metro when in Cairo.
Is it advisable to ride on the Cairo subway?
The metro is one of the best ways to go from one place to another within Cairo. As the streets are crowded with cars and people most of the day, the metro has become the fastest means of transportation in the Egyptian capital. Although the metro can be crowded during rush hours, it is still a good way to get around central Cairo.
Cairo’s metro travels from Helwan, the southernmost point to the meadow, in the northeastern part of the city. The second line runs from Shubra in northern Cairo to Giza in the western section of Greater Cairo. The third line of the Cairo Metro will eventually arrive at the airport, but only 5 stations are currently operating. The ticket price is EGP to transfer from any station to another on any of the three lines. Each train on the metro has two specific conditions for ladies throughout the day, which may be a good option especially when trains are very crowded.

Egypt usually has 3 sorts of visas:
The best time to visit Egypt depends on where you want to go. Generally speaking, winter (December to February) is the tourist high season and summer (June to August) is the low season in all parts of the country except on the coasts, and to a lesser degree in Cairo.
Weather-wise, June to August is unbearable almost anywhere south of Cairo, especially around Luxor and Aswan, where daytime temperatures soar up to 40°C. Summer in Cairo is almost as hot.
When visiting somewhere such as Luxor, winter is easily the most comfortable time. Cairo isn’t quite as pleasant, with often overcast skies and chilly evenings, while up on the Mediterranean coast Alexandria is subject to frequent downpours resulting in flooded, muddy streets. Even Sinai’s beaches are a little too chilly for sunbathing in January.
The happiest compromise for an all-Egypt trip is to visit in spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November).
There is very little that you might need and won’t be able to find in Egypt. That said, you may not have the same degree of choice as at home.
So bring sunglasses, a torch (flashlight), sunscreen and a hat. If you’re a light sleeper you may also want to bring earplugs.
If you are visiting during winter, a sweater or light jacket is necessary for evenings, especially in desert areas.
Here’re the most important things you should bring it with you.
Hats, Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Comfortable walking shoes, Power Adapters, Medication, Camera, Alcoholic Beverages.
